Active Earth   ActiveEarth supports environmental rehabilitation around the world. We try to give dedicated individuals the chance to participate in this task. We only work with projects that adhere to

strict conservation criteria and are run in a transparent way.

We encourage volunteers to participate in environmental rehabilitation projects local to them as a way of maximising rehabilitation benefit and minimising our travel-associated impacts. We support the South African TerraPi project because it provides a unique opportunity that equips volunteers with the essential skills required to implement environmental care projects worldwide. Engaging with the TerraPi experience will leave you spiritually connected to the land.

  TerraPi - Volunteer Conservation Projects
x x x x x
Active Earth

TerraPi tries to preserve biodiversity along the Baviaanskloof Mega Reserve in South Africa, a World Heritage Site and one of the top ten biodiversity hotspots in the world. Uncontrolled advance of exotic alien vegetation threatens local flora and fauna at the site. Degrading local river systems

render the situation even more critical.

TerraPi leads the first of its kind national pilot project steered by the World Wildlife Fund together with the Biodiversity Institute of Southern Africa, Working for Wetlands and Working for Water. Situated in the Eastern Cape, the site is malaria-free. TerraPi’s main objective is to create a conservation culture that contributes towards sustainable conservation concepts.

  The Course
Active Earth

Part of this conservation program is to provide volunteers with courses on biodiversity conservation and invader management. Students will interact with the local animal population without

relying on cars and buses that lead to soil erosion. Spending time in the park, participants will learn how to spot and eradicate invader plant, carry out game counts and biodiversity assessments.

Together with TerraPi staff, participants will build minimum impact shelters in remote wild locations, while enjoying the wilderness through hands-on conservation. Free time can be spent in the surfing Mecca of Jeffrey’s bay.

Volunteers leave with a sense of accomplishment through participating in a wide range of conservation applications, never bored and always heading on the next adventure. Students will take with them sound structures and experience how to implement environmental care programs anywhere in the world.
